That's all very well but....
Does anyone know when the HMRC self-assessment system will allow us to file ALL the self-assessment pages on-line?
They can't very well have one deadling for people with Trust Income (for example) and a later one for those without?

They won't because we all know that cars are getting cheaper to buy and more fuel efficient which more than offsets inflation and the rise in fuel prices!

Cash accounting is BAD.
I can't see there is any argument. Cash Accounting doesn't show a true picture and is therefore a fundamentally flawed concept. Any business or charity needs to know the true picture whatever their size. And if an organisation can't cope with the idea of accrual accounting it shouldn't exist.

Surely you can claim VAT on 40p/mile?
John, your article suggests you can't claim VAT on the 40p mileage allowance but HMRC does accept claims on part of it (10-15p) provided you have original petrol VAT receipts for at least the amount you are claiming. Well, they allow it for us anyway!

IPPR report slates civil servants
Apparently the Institute for Public Policy Research has found that the civil service is under-performing, has weak leadership, inadequate professional skills and a lack of effective accountability and that a culture of "amateurism" prevailed at the top of Whitehall. It said senior civil servants were resistant to modern management methods. "It is ineffective in carrying out its core functions of policy design and operational delivery. Performance is poorly managed and poor performance often goes unchecked".
Surely this is not senior management at HMRC they are talking about is it?
