Thanks for that, as you say all good ideas. I am not sure if I have just had enough though as trying to alter the behaviours of our large client base or risk the wrath of those who don't like it is something I just can't face. Maybe in a couple of weeks Ill feel more up to it. Most of our clients are local and every time I go shopping or out of my front door I see them everywhere so its hard to get tough as I know them all rather than being distanced. I also know that although I can set my own terms and if people dont like it they can lump it, but then I am going to keep running into these people out and about and they thought of having people everywhere that think I am persona no grata (even though wrong) is again not something I look forward to.
Also I am really grateful for all the suggestions. Friends and family have no idea of the intricacies so its great to hear from others in the business. I am getting a lot of people trying to sell their services to me. I dont mind doing the actual work, it is the clients from hell, the non payers, annoying staff and HMRC that are whats doing it. I dont want to sub contract work as I am ok with the actual work so please don't send me any more requests. The only benefit to me would be a good new employee who will be full time in the office.
I think you'll find that most of them will actually show a new respect for you for being firm. Stick to your terms and conditions. Don't accept non-payers. Tell people trying to sell to you that you are not n the slightest bit interested. Jut sounds like you need to be able to say 'no'.
