Just seen new software for personal tax on sage and grants need declaring under other income.
There is a covid 19 section to complete. Firstly you have to declare SEISS payments have been included in taxable income and then a further box to enter any payments incorrectly claimed.
Agents were not allowed to make the claims and therefore should not be expected to be an unpaid policeman
making decisions whether claims were incorrect or not. This looks like an opportunity and responsibility for the client to make that judgement possibly with our help. If they do admit an error you need to only enter the valid income claims and then enter the invalid amounts on the covid 19 section .
This is only a initial view of the position. I will try to obtain further clarification from FL Memo and HMRC in due course
I have just switched to the latest version of online fl memo and it is fine, I got a credit straight away for the previous service, and they sent a courier to collect the old books. The three people on their telephone service have always been helpful when as a sole practictioner I needed help with issues. If they were not available straight away they have always rung back. Salesmen are salesmen whatever you are looking at.
As a yorkshire man I tell them the way it is and they back off and accept that, perhaps one or two of you are [***]. For around £600 a year I have access to technical information and a helpline, not to mention the additional benefit I derive by using it to schedule out my CPD for the AAT. Previously I have paid around £700 a year for Mercia courses which were on the whole not of any use to the sole trader accountants business.
