Check if you can reclaim it first. 2 clients paid it in good faith but were met with 'you cannot claim as your PAYE Scheme ended before or started after February 2020’ none of which is mentioned in the guidance.
I would also check you insurance and/or professional body requirements. In certain professions you are required to hold paperwork for years longer than you would expect. Scanning may be the answer if you have to keep for 20 years.
I have used Moneysoft now for 4 years and I am extremely happy with it. At no extra charge it provides full CIS coverage, payslips, vouchers, CIS 300 and automatically adds the tax to the PAYE bill. Also at no extra charge they have included AE and as far as I can see it is all singing, all dancing like the CIS. All at a fraction of the cost of most other payroll software, and they update throughout the year, not just at the year end. What more could you want.
Pay your employees an average hours amount for both weeks and mop up the difference on the next payroll. Simples. All payroll programs allow you to pay ahead in the correct weeks, if yours doesn't then switch to Moneysoft that does.

Being Xmas and clients closed down for almost 2 weeks I did their payrolls early and filed at once, for 27th December and Jan 3rd, on the 23rd December. I now have late filing notices on all those clients, so I can safely say it has nothing to do with Monthly pay but more to do with an incompetent system at HMRC. Let us hope they get their facts right when it does matter or they are going to be swamped with appeals against incorrect penalty notices.
The annual scheme has been suspended since the advent of RTI and one is told to just submit nil RTI returns monthly where there is no pay. A client also has the dubious pleasure of receiving letters threatening fines for not sending the 'old' nil return AS WELL as the RTI nil return. Does anyone at HMRC have a clue?????
Have you checked the small print on this provider. When I switched my payroll software from IRIS I assumed I could view previous years data if necessary but once the licence expired the whole thing was closed with no access. Other payroll software providers do allow access to historical info in read only format.
I have an annual payroll for one of my clients, it also happens to be an honoraria payroll. I was told quite categorically that HMRC do not do annual payroll schemes and I was to report a 'period of inactivity' through my payroll. But my payroll software, Moneysoft, does not have a facility for 'period of inactivity' nor will it send only an EPS so I am told, and the FPS will not submit with zero activity. Apart from this problem I find Moneysoft to be far superior to other payroll software. I really do not wish to switch my payroll software for that reason so has anyone any idea if the HMRC's own payroll could handle an annual scheme.
Being one of the many small time payroll experts I totally agree that for a small fee, under £200 per year a monthly payroll could be run. Slightly more if a weekly payroll, but to be honest all they need to do is pay their employees weekly the same amount as before and a 4 weekly payroll run could gather it up onto a payslip. I already do this for one of my clients to save money.
I do wonder at the accountant who has brought this to our attention, surely he could have advised that outsourcing the payroll would be cheaper than redundancy.

Early dates trigger late payment notice
