Is it not on page 3 of the 'M's?

Post Office - no for VAT
It is clearly printed on the front of the Bank Giro Credit booklet that the Post Office will not accept these giros (booklet received last year).
If the bank giro credit and cheque are taken to own bank/branch of own bank, there won't usually be a charge and it does also say 'to avoid complications, please pay the giro into the bank on which your payment cheque has been drawn'.
From past experience, if you haven't got a giro slip, the bank won't accept it.

I would recommend Smart Training - reasonably priced (usually less than £60 plus VAT for 3 hour course), good range of courses and well-known speakers. Not sure where you are as the venues are mainly in North West but also do some courses in York, Birmingham & Cardiff.
I haven't tried their online courses yet.

I use the fax to e-mail service of voipTalk and have done so for c3years.
As I get few faxes I opted for an 0870 number which was a one-off fee. Looking at their website there are various options - see 'unified communications'.

HMRC will update their records to show quarterly payments (client was moving from monthly to quarterly payments). At the same time found that another client was automatically set to quarterly as it was a new scheme.
I rang the number on the payslip booklet (0845 366 7816), sat on hold for 20 mins but it was worth it.

For once great service
Online registration completed yesterday after 5.30, e-mail with the reference numbers received just after midday today, e-mail did say references were included to allow filing deadlines to be met (pre-6 April scheme)

I also had a partnership that ceased in 07/08 and correctly noted as such on the Return, noted a 2009 Partnership Tax Return was issued and after telephone calls to HMRC it was captured as a 'nil' return and account marked as dormant.
I note this week one of the former partners (but not the other) has a late filing penalty for the partnership return. Not followed up yet but it is frustrating.

Most recent experience
I sent a Dispensation Application to the Employers Section on 24/09/09 and this was granted 29/09/09 so can't complain about speed of response, I have a couple more to do for 2009/10 and would expect these to be dealt with during March.
Last one was for a company whose only employees are the directors. On the form P11DX ticked 'yes' for invoices/receipts being produced for claims and 'yes' that someone other than claimant checked the claim and clarified this by adding to following box 'Claims are checked by accountant when annual accounts are prepared as the employees are all directors' and drew attention to this in the covering letter so it was clear at what point the checks were being undertaken.
The dispensation states effective from 29/09/09 but can be treated as applying from 6/04/09 and I think this is the norm as I have never specifically requested it. HTH
I have not tried the online service.
