I am fortunate as I do have taxfiler and I discovered today that the client received the mortgage offer 10 weeks ago. Is the name of the client, % through the return and UTR on the top of the tax calculation for 2020 as it does not show on my 'view tax computation' page?

Number 3 in the 26 March guidance states ....
Who can apply
'are trading when you apply, or would be except for COVID-19.'
As the portal will not be open for a few weeks I think self employed can continue to trade and receive the grant.

My client had an investigation some 15 years ago and all bank statements and credit card statements were requested by HMRC. At the meeting HMRC pulled up a file full of receipts and the inspector said 'we requested all of your bank and credit card statements.... where are the credit card statements related to these purchases.' Pointing at the numbers stamped at the bottom of each receipt. My client looked at the receipts..... frowned... and said 'I do not understand ....the number stamped on all of the receipts is my Little Chef loyalty card number!'

I had no problems registering my ASA.... but registering my first client for MTD has taken 4 weeks. My problem was when I had to confirm the VAT No. of the client the screen froze. After many many phone calls... one suggestion was to cancel my ASA and start again..... I finally spoke to a person on the helpline who had dealt with my problem. So here goes... if this happens to you you must download or use a different brower. I had used Firefox but had Edge loaded on my computer. I am not a a technical person but the 3 dots top right on the Edge home page, as he explained, enable you to send 'private info'? I clicked on the 3 dots... went to the HMRC site and low and behold I followed the instructions and registered the client!

Hi John...... I knew I had read something someware regarding rollover relief - CG60270.
''Roll-over relief: non-residents
A person who is resident or ordinarily resident* in the UK can roll over a gain from the disposal of qualifying assets against the acquisition of new qualifying assets wherever they are situated. If all other conditions for relief are met you should not deny relief where a person has ceased to be resident or ordinarily resident* in the UK when the new qualifying assets are acquired.'' or am I missing something?

Thanks John. They have not actually sold the business yet but they have found a buyer. Can they not submit a rollover relief claim as as they will be purchasing similar in Australia?

Thanks again Michael. I already have agreement to this proposal from HMRC - I suggested 2 valuations from local agents and they said the district valuer may be involved... I just wanted someone to confirm that the ER rate would apply on the 'paper gain'. I do not want my client to loose the ER on the gain.

Thanks for the reply Michael. The FHL property qualifies for ER but the property does not now meet the rules of FHL. He wishes to obtain valuations for the property now and pay the CGT at the ER rate.... is this possible?

VAT registratioon error
I have a client who incorporated in 2004 and registered online for VAT in 2011 but in error entered the VAT registration date as 2004! After 4 months of correspondence HMRC agreed to the 2011 date.
