Just coming up to 50 years membership of ICAEW and the rumour is that my membership might be free at that point!. My carrer has spanned both practice and commerce at senior levels. Basically traing with a small firm in Chester from age 16 on incomplete records moving to to major firms and ending up a London manager with AY in 1977.  Joined a US multinational as European head of Internal Audit then joined what was to become KWIK FIT as FD. Effectively handdling the change to Public company status then being heavily involved in the computerisation of what had become over 250 depots from 100 in 2 years. Moved to Ladbroke Hotels and Holidays (now Hilton of course) and then got involved with a business turnaround in car parts manufacturing and importing.

Completed a lifestyle change back into practice in 1987 and started a practice from scratch that became office number 21 for Haines Watts in 1991.  Developed that to 2 offices and circa 22 staff before retiring from it in 2014.  Now I operate what I call a boutique practice looking after a restricted number of clients who require a very personalised service level and  pick up some special projects and non exec roles from time to time as well as some charitable work.
