Advising a client selling from their website but Id be interested in hearing both answers!
Some customers order two or three items to try them and send some back.
Costing a fortune at present!
Having read this thread the situation is slightly clearer (to me).
However, the references are to THE BUSINESS.
We know that the self-employed person could have gone and worked PAYE at Tesco to 'fill in' while quiet and the SEISS grant would be fine.
BUT what if they set up a NEW totally different sole trader business in April and earned some decent profits. The existing sole trader business is and will continue to be affected by COVID?
Overall self-employed profits may be higher but from the original continuing sole trader profits will be lower for the year and the three month basis period.
It can be done! I got more than £10k back from Amazon for a client. Effectively a sales ledger adjustment.
We had an agreed much earlier effective vat registration date. Refund approved after just two messages to support.
We use Splashtop. From my computer Including our payroll laptop I can access The Splashtop streamer installed on every computer in the office. (That brick thing we used to go to).
Streamer first time set up requires someone there. After that - do it yourself.
We use IRIS. And 150 employers with NILs required. Why?....Because we receive paper copy reminders for perhaps 25-30% of these (different each year). So historically we've always submitted for all, to cover all bases.

I’m possibly one of the older members here.
I’ve gained much practical advice in this forum over the years and thought I’d give something back!
No affiliation or commission for me!
Refusing meetings. Zoom or Skype or just plain telephone. No one has thrown dummy out of pram so far.
Frankly, I don't expect to resume meetings ever - if I can help it!

There’s a free trial.
I use Signable. Never have my engagement letters been so rapidly signed. £1 pay as you go! Brilliant.
OK good to know its not just us and IRIS. Thanks.
