A quick google gives quite a bit of background on the case. £10k of clothes still with the labels still on at his house, other expensive purchases like cars and jewellery, high stress job and first management position at a major financial company - looks like he found therapy in shopping at the sort of places that make you feel good. Sad but no excuse.

Fascinating and I love it when judges get a good analogy in ;)

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, my honourable colleague might wish to refer to the last published ICAEW survey for better data:
Average salary highlights for ease:
Qualified - £64k
Newly Qualified - £40k
Part Qualified - £28k

I can understand it being 2015 when the internal investigation took place. It might take several months between claim and internal audit identifying the problem and then several months for him to fail to explain himself and disciplinary action/appeal or whatever. ICAEW's timeline is puzzling though.

Just looked up the case above and his representative on the day was a Mr T McNally. It doesn't name him as the agent referred to in the judgment but he looks an interesting character - seems to run My Tax Back Ltd, has an app called Tommy's Tax (with good reviews on Google Play) and a website tommystax.com with incredibly good reviews...
Comments about it elsewhere are interesting though ;)

BBC Radio 4's File on 4 is always worth a listen imho - best accompanied with some alcohol to fortify oneself as you learn what other people are capable of doing to others/the environment etc :(

I'm still trying to understand all the problems but I think you're right on A. Plus it seems neither side had access to a full transaction history (you'd have thought the PO would have had that anyway - but it seems not!)
There is also the question of remote access. Initially, the PO denied there was any and then it turned out there was - so was there tampering?

It seems that the restaurant is no longer - funding issues and the pandemic given as reasons...

As a pretty old ICAS person (who can remember when you got disciplined for being 3 months late with your annual subs), I remember that we all filled out our student forms in a room with the personnel lady in charge. The confession by one of our cohort of how they got their conviction for being drunk in charge of a bicycle had us all in stitches.
