Holden Associates was established in 2003 and has gone on to grow significantly in size since those early days. Holden Associates was one of the first firm of qualified accountants & business advisers to offer clients 'cloud' bookkeeping software.

We use TaxCalc for everything it does, it is good and fast to use.
MoneySoft for payroll, why wouldn't you...
AccountancyManager for PM as sadly TC is not very good at it :-(
We used to use VT with another software for tax but switching to TaxCalc some 4+ years ago was the best thing we did.
Like everything it depends on your budget, client numbers and profitability.

What about Figure Wizard?

We use TaxCalc (everything in it) and we used the tasks etc to manage everything, but, you have to run reports etc so not ideal.
We are trialling AccountancyManager, wow, that's all I can say!

We use TaxCalc and SWAT, we take the template from SWAT add fields pop it into TaxCalc software and we are ready to go, upload into document signing software, done, it takes minutes to deal with engagement letters.

We swapped over to TaxCalc last year, I wish we had done it years ago, we used to use VT and FastTax which are great but TaxCalc is so much better and now we are bigger is saving us a lot of time.

Is any of this helping norstar?
I can comment on the backup in TaxCalc, it is very easy and having used it once to restore from it works :-)

We use TaxCalc, we swapped last year, after testing many of the alternatives we have found TaxCalc to be truly amazing to use and at sensible pricing.
Their support ... only ever had to use it once during an upgrade and it was probably one of the best levels of support I have experienced from a software company.
If you want any idea how good it is, we took on a trainee last year and the TaxCalc software has allowed the firm to benefit from her work from an early stage.

Some harsh attitudes here ... Per HMRC chap at seminar I attended last year - submit in advance using estimates and amend when back.
Or as said process vvia internet while away, not that difficult really.
As for comparing this to taking on work you have no experience in is a joke.
Seems a lot on here have forgotten they are in business!
Get netbook/light laptop and process from anywhere in the world!
A quick point though that has been touched on, if you are worried about this have you got any sort of disaster recovery/alternate in place, if you have why not ask alternate to process for you?

VT, MoneySoft and FastTax (it is still the quickest to use IMO).
