I think Prem Sikka's question is key, and the answer is a resounding "no" when management fail to act with integrity - the finger should be firstly pointed at them (including the finance function) for not being open and honest with auditors.
Three areas are mentioned - imprudent revenue recognition, receivables recoverability, and adequacy of provisions. Possibly these all relate to the same issue but it would be interesting to understand better how widespread the failure was.

Some good ideas here, but I don't think the iPad analogy is helpful. It can be a fools errand to keep upgrading hardware, and smart devices make upgrade virtually impossible anyway. On the other hand, software is much easier to improve on with additional modules and front end improvements if the back end is sound.
My advice to anyone thinking they need a new finance system is to first consider whether some TLC for the current system would extend its life sufficiently, and think about the pain (financial and otherwise) you could save by sidestepping a new system implementation altogether.

Sage TB imbalance when exported
I was using an older version of Line 50, so don't know if this problem still exists, but when you export a TB via CSV, it may not add up.
What happens is that if a balance on any account has too many digits, you lose digits off the end of the balance - so my TB when imported and totalled in Excel was out by 98p. I had to print a TB and tick it back to the Excel data to satisfy myself the first time this happened.

What will the Budget do?
I'm no expert when it comes to speculating about the Budget, but isn't it possible that the relief will be extended a further year?
My response to this is to prepare an order for some IT equipment we'll need in the next six months, but I won't place that order until we know the relief isn't being continued - I'd look a bit stupid to spend a load of money if I don't need to!
If cash flow can stand to pay out for this stuff a bit earlier, I'll do it for what could be a significant acceleration of capital allowances.

Bordering on suicide...
I see how this all works - except it doesn't work with borders - they're just cleared when I refresh! I'm using Excel 2002 - do you think this is a bug?
