Out of interest, I have a similar case with a friend who is undertaking a self-build and has been charged VAT on the demolition of the existing structure. The existing house was demolished before the purchase, but the pool was left. The new building is going to replace the old house and occupy some of the land where the old pool is, so the pool has to be demolished. The demolition supplier insists on charging VAT. Any thoughts?
