Thanks Lisa R, that's really helpful.....Sadly the mailbox is empty! We don't receive any notices from HMRC - it is usually the employee who gives them to us.
I've checked HMRC online too, but nothing on there either
I'm using Sage 50cloud.... there is no apply button! I have to manually enter the tax code.
I agree with you all about Sage.... I personally hate it, but sadly, being the sole finance person in the company means I have little time to think about changing payroll software although it is definitely on my list of jobs!
Any recommendations for the best payroll software?
I'm not trying to enter the X in the code box, but rather put a tick next to Mth 1/Wk1 as I have been told that X is the same as Mth 1/Wk1....
Is that correct?
I issue about 50 sales invoices each month, and process around 150 purchase invoices, we have no stock, so actually the mundane tasks don't take that long.
But there are definitely times when I could do with some help.....particularly when I'm being asked to do lots of reporting, I've got suppliers chasing for payment and it's payroll day!
I've been here 3.5 years and as we grow, there's certainly more requests for reports and additional information which does eat into my available time for the more mundane tasks.
I'm trying to make my life easier by automating most of the routine stuff! But it's certainly not easy juggling tasks and as you correctly say, trying to keep everyone happy is difficult!
Yes, the only finance bod! I do everything to do with finance, even payroll for 60+ employees, so KPI's are not really top of my list of things to think about!
A bit of background.....we are web development company, currently with no corporate strategy (going through management change and growth at the moment!). Cash is important and the main concern for the shareholders, so debtors days is a good starting point.
But definitely take your point that we need a strategy before we can think about KPI's..... it's the old chicken and egg situation!!
Just managed to do it successfully online through HMRC! As DJKL said, if you do the P11D (b) first, it then allows you to do each individual.
Quite easy in the end, and you can print out the submissions afterwards
We have 80 FTE's on the payroll, plus about 10 contractors ,so quite a few people. But only one person in finance - me! Hence why I'm trying to look at process improvement....
We are a service company, so no stock to worry about. I used Sage 200 in a previous role but couldn't get on with it, although it was good from a stock control point of view.
Sadly, the Sage I've inherited is old and hasn't even got the bank feeds set up, so everything is manual. I have asked IT to set this up though, so hopefully this is something that can be improved quite soon!
Management accounts are ok from Sage, and multi-currency.
So, it is really the day to day stuff that needs reviewing....
Sadly, my boss is obsessed with cash! Which is fair enough as it's his company.
Yes, the standard templates aren't particularly great - in the past I've created my own which work ok
