Someone earning 60k a year really should have some rainy day savings.
There is only so much borrowing the government can undertake on our behalf to pay for all of this and I believe it is right we spend that on those with low earnings

Perhaps some of the sports biggest earners...Bale , Ronaldo et al might like to donate whatever they are going to be paid over the next year to the lower league clubs.

I would have thought if a government takes too much of your income either via high rates of tax or benefit clawbacks for lower earners it is going to have a negative impact an individuals motivation to earn more.
The laffer curve, I presume, is just the macro version of all those decisions made at a micro level.
How to determine the sweet spot level of tax must be an almost impossible task as it will vary by country ( USA % is going to be lower % than Sweden's ) and I suspect will increase and decrease depending on the mood of the populace over time.

This will be as toxic on the doorstep as the 'Dementia tax' proposal was for the Tories in 2017.

Absolutely. This is very similar to conversations I used to have with accounts staff whilst out on small company audits. Quite a few confided with me that the sight of the suited and booted audit team descending on their office was really intimidating.

This seems an awfully complex way of extracting a bit more money from the highest earners. Why not just put the highest rate of tax back up to 50%
Also everyone currently earning between £37.5k and £50k will pay more tax than under the current rates. I can't see how that is going to persuade middle England/Wales/Scotland to switch from Tory to Labour.

Thanks Will, that makes a lot of sense.
Hope it works out.

Well I like the concept of allowing staff the flexibility to set their own hours, but I'm a little confused over the 6 hour rule. Do they have to work a minimum of 6 hours on a working day? Or is that that maximum per day?
Why do they have such a rule at all if they offer unlimited holidays providing the work gets done?

Today is first day at work since fri 21st and I feel much better for having decent break.
Just checked my emails and discovered nothing particularly urgent, so will now extend my holiday by two days :-)

For most of us, driving a motor vehicle, is the only activity where we are capable of causing extreme physical harm to another human.
I really wish the government would bring forward the promised legislation to increase the maximum jail sentences for dangerous and careless driving.
It might have help with this particular drivers concentration if he knew the sentence would be life for such crimes.
Philip, I am glad you are ok. Life is precious.
