Attempting to be an amazing accountant and an amazing mum, somehow combine the two and meet somewhere in the middle but currently failing at both. Hoping that in a few years I will have found something I enjoy doing or found some sort of work life balance and will be in a less stressed out place but until then, or as I get there, I think I will vent all my frustrations out on these blogs! And the responses I've had to the blogs have been quite nice which spurs me on to keep going.
I've had lots of problems with the ACCA website in the past, especially when I was looking for the practicing certificate information. The links used to go round in circles and I'd end up no where. It did get better after a while but I've not been on it for a while.
I have had a corporation tax payment returned in the past so I wasn't quite sure if there had been any changes to corporation tax, especially with so much being online now that I just wanted to check I was doing everything right. Thanks again.
Hi I feel for you. You're doing so well keeping everything together. Is there any way you could start on an alternative career while still working in your practice? Just so you still have an income. Good luck with whatever you do.
For as long as I've worked in small practices, my salary was always below the salary guide so I'm not too sure how good a guide that really is. But you can always bring it up with the partner if it is an issue.
As for working in the city, it's always good for experience. I would definitely recommend it. You get to see a wide variety of companies that you might not necessarily see outside of London. It might take longer to make partner but I enjoyed the experience.
I did ACCA rather than ACA but I guess the work life dilemma is still the same. If you do want to be an accountant I'd definitely recommend doing the ACA exams especially as you have good grades and so you would find the work more challenging. I think being an accounting technician will get quite repetitive and dull in the long run. When you do it I guess is up to you but for me the sooner the better as I was still in the studying mode. However, I know some people felt having a break was more motivating for them. Not sure if that helps but just what I did.
Just my opinion Its not 140 words but I'm so drawn to this website compared to any other blogs/websites going (even mum and baby ones). And its not just accounting views, there's stuff about what's in the news, what people are feeling etc. It really does feel like a being in an office where you just chit chat while you work.
Tax Advice Network I've subscribed to the tax advice network and find the emails with 3 topics useful. They also have the ambitious accountant email which is good too. I've not subscribed to any others so can't really compare.
It's a nice story Regardless of whether its true or not. Although I'm a sucker for sob story, I once gave an elderly couple £60 so that they could get a coach home after they had been robbed and my address so they could send it back. Never heard from them again!
My answers

Thanks John!

The two women I admire most at the moment are Carol Vorderman and Rebecca Benneyworth.
