I am currently in the same situation and wondered how you had responded to HMRC. I have a small practice with approx 100 subcontractors out of 500 clients.
Hope it's all been sorted with minimal stress!!

Thanks for your replies. Online support have got back to me and said they have referred it to the developers which is a bit scary!
I have only spent £163,350 but this amount is restricted as it was spent in the second period.
I have now filed the return but used my figures as it looks like there is a software issue rather than my inputing error.

I thought the same about the days but it works out almost identical, even taking into account the fact that it was a leap year. Yes I did put the dates of purchase in as well.
I agree with the different periods, penalising a company for 1 day difference that could result in thousands of pounds lost. We know that dates but how often do our clients liase with us as to when capital purchases are to be made!

HI everyone, finally got through to employers helpline and they said that if back in credit he will be charged interest from the 22nd of the month until the next time he became in credit.
Thank goodness common sense at last! I did suggest the gross pay to my client but he is happy with the current situation as he does not normally have a lot of sub contractors.
Thanks everyone for your help, much appreciated.

Hi there he currently owes £15k in tax deducted but this will more than easily be covered next month by his tax suffered figures. I have called the CIS helpline who as you say are usually very helpful however they referred me back to the employers helpline and I am now still on hold with after around 10 minutes! Will let you know if I get through what they say.

Yes it does appear that way but in every way but name at companies house he was a director. Would you backdate the appointment?

Thanks for all you advice so far. I will go back to my client and ask more questions and do more digging.

I have read quite a lot of info and student accomm does not always qualify as residential build as they are not living there for the whole year. This was why I initially thought the standard rated was in place.

Sorry. I meant the return was filled in by my (small) business but I normally deal with accounts etc and the returns are then completed by our lady in the tax. I was given this enquiry to deal with as I have dealt with his self emp details.
