Agree with you regarding complicated letters of engagement and the possible views of a judge if tested in court. I want my clients to read them and agree them so I make sure they are clear, short and in simple language. Trying to cover every conceivable angle undermines the content.
Accountants exist to be heavily regulated not to help their clients.
And as for the comment about regulation being the price we pay for the standard of living we enjoy by having the qualification. What world is Chris Cope living in?
Whilst not wishing to dismiss the survey as there is an element of truth in it, its worth noting that the younger generations are significantly more likely to complain about it than us oldies. Reason?
I might have missed something in this long running debate as I don't have many contactors these days. What if someone who had been engaged by the "employer" before this comes in doesn't challenge a SDS in April 2020 by that same employer that they are now a deemed employee.? Surely this is tantamount to admitting they have previously been evading tax by not applying the IR35 rules to their earlier engagement. Will HMRC now be trawling through these sudden status changes to get tax back.
When I first went onto taxfiler I spoke to the owner to say how great it was and what great value it was. He was refreshingly frank in saying he was making money at that price and it wasn't that Taxfiler was cheap but that the big boys were expensive and were making a killing. Don't blame him for selling as he must have made his fortune. But I now find that I am paying twice as much and the number of clients allowed has fallen by 40%. To get the same number of clients as allowed under the old scheme would see a price increase of 200%.
Thought police took over the public sector years ago. Now it seems that the accountancy profession has fallen to them. Would be laughable if it wasn't so frightening.
Call me thick but if the workers were on the agency payroll I can't see how they had a leg to stand on. If non registered businesses want to avoid the Vat element all they have to do is put them through their payroll.

Just about sums up the gulf between us and them.

This nonsense just shows the extent to which the tail is wagging the dog.
