Such as when looking at completed sales I remember seeing a PS2 sold for 5 times the market price and thought why would someone do that? All I could think of was that it might be a good way for someone to money launder......
When I was a student we got an estimated British gas bill for £1600, when I corrected their estimate it was for £16 instead! I think we had been overpaying for a while there!
I think the above poster is right to when the changes came in, the fines are even worse than that if you keep leaving it!
Length of delay
Penalty you will have to pay
1 day late
A penalty of £100. This applies even if you have no tax to pay or have paid the tax you owe.
3 months late
£10 for each following day - up to a 90 day maximum of £900. This is as well as the fixed penalty above.
6 months late
£300 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is the higher. This is as well as the penalties above.
12 months late£300 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is the higher. In serious cases you may be asked to pay up to 100% of the tax due instead. In some cases the penalties can be even higher than this. These are as well as the penalties above.
Plus of course the penalties on the payment as well....

Its Jan 2015 for amended if you are just plain late filing it. If the revenue have agreed to extend filing date by any amount, then its 12 months from that date.

These controls work in most things
These shortcuts work in most things:
Ctrl + X Cut
Ctrl + C Copy
Ctrl + V Paste
Ctrl + Z Undo <- this one is a real life saver, for when you accidentally delete a massive wall of text you've just highlighted!
I think they work in I.E. too, although I only use IE when I have to - like shonky gov websites!
I've seen some weird things

Calling from abroad
I like to keep an eye out for "calling from abroad" numbers, as they are easily editable into normal telephone numbers.
For example on the HMRC website
http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/view.page?record=hpkspulskxM
If you're calling from abroad please telephone: +44 135 535 9022
Just remove the +44 and replace with a 0
0135 535 9022
I do this with banks all the time (always one of these numbers on the back of a credit card), as not a fan of 0845 numbers.
Never had a problem with people claiming I’m not abroad when I ring them.

Remember if anyone asks you anything your not sure on that you can look into it and get back to them, some stock phrases that i always used,
"Its been a whiles since i last dealt with that, let me check a few things and get back to you"
Ultimately only an idiot wants incorrect advice and people always prefer you researching an answer than guessing what you think is "probably right"
And it gets easier the more you do it. Often I find a bad call is more the other persons attitude than my own.
It gets worse than that.....
