'' you are only permitted to make one claim per PAYE scheme every three weeks.''
This is wrong, as I have just had confirmed to me on the JRS live webchat, and by the weekly claims I am now making. It would defeat the point of the scheme if weekly paid workers only got paid every three weeks!
Download client list from HMRC in early December. Identify outstanding returns, estimate number of days required, send out first reminders by duplicated emails.
Early January, second email reminders. Turn away all new work - these people will be last minute every year and the client list will get progressively loaded with them.
Keep a close eye on the days left and the days required. More reminders - phone or email - where required, but more to cover myself than save the client a fine - that's their problem! This year all done by the 29th, but that's so much better than stress, stress, stress!
Early February, rate clients 0-5, nought being the ones I'd like to lose, but this is usually wishful thinking!!
If I should need to file an unauthorised client's return on the 31st January (heaven forbid!), and I used their laptop but my office router to do so, would that trigger an alert?
Something else I wasn't aware of! Must do more CPD!! So instead of not paying over much NI because SSP has been paid out, employers won't be paying over much NI because of this allowance, freeing up funds to bear the payment of SSP? Sounds OK but seems like there might be some big winners and some big losers.
Why there has been no riots on the street - Poll Tax Style - is beyond me
Could be a ticking time bomb like the removal of the 10p tax band that was pretty much ignored until it hit people's pay packets. Trouble is this will hit the business first, the workers will only notice once the business closes as a result!
My answers
My clients seem to have got a lot more 'tech-savvy' recently. Can't think why!
The software will not let you claim for overlapping periods but will allow claims for a two week period

This MTD thing all seems a bit unnecessary. Won't all businesses be trading as limited companies by 2020 when Corporation Tax hits 17%?!?
Good Jane Eyre joke!!
My client did ask me to fix his boiler - turned out he'd selected the wrong contact on his phone
