The complication seems to be that for capital allowances and AIA to apply, even on integral fixtures, the assets need to be owned by the taxpayer. Where the taxpayer is a tenant without a long-term lease, I don't see how that can be the case.

I presumed it would be free of charge. We use BTC AP and that interfaces with lots of packages - never occurred to me that if I can produce full statutory accounts feeding VTT+ into BTC there would be an additional cost for MTD filing. Having said that, I suppose there's no reason why BTC should provide MTD facilities free anyway. It would take an awful lot for me to move from BTC - I'm a great fan of it - but this may be a time to sit back and review everything. I was thinking of moving our secretarial work from First Corporate (which is very good) to BTC just to keep everything nicely tied together, but perhaps I should put that on hold for now.

I'm glad I found this thread as I thought I was missing something. I know it used to be straightforward.
MTD - Making Tax Difficult?

Thanks for your reply. I don't know why he didn't charged VAT to every customer. What happened if i don't include those invoice o final VAT return.
Isn't that a bit like asking "What happens if I deliberately falsify the final VAT return?" I've no idea which accounting body you belong to - perhaps none given the question posed - but there are ethical and professional standards which are non-negotiable.

We have virtually every process written out in a formalised systems manual whether it's something as simple as a checklist for clients changing their address (believe it or not, that can require changing in up to eleven places!) or taking on a new client with all the anti-money laundering, letter of engagement, direct debit set up etc steps required. Because of our systemised approach I was able to take a 5 weeks holiday over September/October and come back to a virtually-empty inbox:-)
We are planning to make the procedures manual and some associated online training material available to other accounting practices early in the new year (for a modest monthly fee!) so that may be one way to help you escape from the day to day routine of keeping everything running.
PM me and I'll contact you when we are ready to launch it - we are just going through the process of making everything more generic so there aren't our logos on the forms, draft letters etc.

One of the options for the month is "N/A". Select that, put the amount in as 0.00 and away you go.

CIS at Xerocon?
We're mindful of the benefit of having something available for the new tax year, so that's our goal but I'd caveat that with the fact that we're a software business where there's often many a slip twixt cup and lip.
We'll definitely be showing something at Xerocon early Feb.
Managing Director, Xero
Anyone go to Xerocon? If so, was CIS accounting (not payroll, accounting) featured? The way Kashflow handles CIS is one of the reasons I still recommend it.

Full marks to VT
I have a client who purchased VTT+ in 2011 and wants to move it to another machine, but can't find the licence key. I came across this oldish thread yesterday when searching online to see if there was a way of seeing the licence key in the software the same way you can see the customer number. Turns out that you can't, so I pinged off a quick email to VT this afternoon asking for the key and back came the answer within 15 minutes. No rubbish about 'they aren't paying for support' just a swift resolution to to my client's problem.

Surely there's only one answer
Ask your accountant to explain why they are depreciating the cars. Keep asking them until you understand it. If they can't/won't explain to your satisfaction (which doesn't mean you like the explanation, but does mean that you understand it) find another accountant.
Am I the only one who found the 'don't worry about understanding the numbers, just get on with running the business' type of responses a bit arrogant?

Can't use BrightPay
We currently use MoneySoft and are very happy with it, but with AE it seemed a good time to look around at alternatives. BrightPay seemed to tick all the boxes but then I read here that they don't handle CIS. I just phoned them to see if that had changed but it hasn't. That's a staggering omission for a UK payroll system - a bit like Xero being so late to the party in providing EC Sales Lists for VAT purposes. (They allow you to capture CIS suffered but said that CIS deducted from subcontractors has to be catered for 'elsewhere'!)
