Murray is a fellow of ACCA and has transitioned from accountancy to software development in the accounting industry.
Murray has a view that automation is essential in the accounting industry around compliance. The role of accountant in the future is very different to role that accountants get trained in. Digital transformation is very disruptive to the industy, but Murray believes acceptance and reinvention will allow accountants to deliver a much wider service to clients. A consultative and supportive role will ensure accountants remain a critical service provider in the commercial sector.
The future of accountancy relies on the rise of the human in light of the rise of the machine.
Murray founded Nomoshobo in 2016 in a bid to tackle HMRC's Making Tax Digital initiative. Nomoshobo streamlines the bookkeeping process and allows accountants and small businesses to work better together. The Nomoshobo application simplifies the financial workflow process and enables both accountants and small businesses the tools to make better business decisions.
Prior to setting up Nomoshobo, Murray founded and managed Zoosme Accountants. Zoosme Accountants was viewed as a pathfinder in the digital accountancy space and was spotlighted at IRIS World 2015 as a blueprint to how accountancy practises could operate in a paperless environment.
