All I wish is that you all write in o VAT written enquiries and overwhelm them as they have overwhelmed us.
Lot of accountants are in this to make a fast buck but they should take care as it might come back to bite them.
PTA - what a joke - Last year I took a one off 10K pension payment that was later cancelled so HMRC computers took the annual payment of 10k multiplied it by 52 weeks giving me an income of £520,000 plus my business profits and worked out a code on that . I sent an online form stating the error received a random call to say that had no idea what I was talking about in my email and when I looked back on line the entry had been corrected. So my fellow Accountants if that we are dealing with , you tell me .
Uber clearly are a company employing drivers and so the income should be vatable - no wonder this country is in a mess. HMRC are more interested in making SMEs life a misery with MTD.
Having read the replies I think this is a very sad reflection on MTD. No one seems to think MTD is a good way forward and that its plagued with difficulties. The intention of MTD was four sets of interim Accounts completed in a digital format and then a final submission - you pay your VAT , PAYE and Income Tax as you go and know where you are financially with your business each quarter. I agree that MTD in a perfect world with well built computer systems, trained Accountants and good end systems at HMRC with well trained staff would work but on the evidence in many Aweb replies we have poorly written and complex computer systems , clients and accountants with inadequate skills , poor end systems built by HMRC and a lack of quality staff at HMRC which equal a "car crash" and an end product far removed form the 2015 vision of MTD .
I had a client in his 20's - very sure of himself went on to Xero - told him to let me check it all out after a few months - found out he claimed VAT on every single item - posted everything to Sundries - bearing in mind I had spent hours training him up he took offence and went to get his accounts done somewhere else who said his records were perfect . The firm was one of the big boys who are desperate for clients . How is that fair ?
You are correct - I had a young guy in his 20's signed up tp Xero - claimed VAT on everything and when I told him he said he would file his own VAT . HMRC are about ti lose a fortune in tax.

I so agree. HMRC are seriously alienating the Accountants and I feel we are the ones keeping things afloat.

I would ignore his comment - seems like the pompous old school accountant that nobody likes .
Surprising how many "thanks" I get for such exaggerated posts and how many people seem to agree with what I say. Your so rude.
