The new album is good but the last album, Book of Souls, is probably the best they have done since Bruce Dickinson rejoined. The earlier albums before he left were better. I still have their Phantom of the Opera as my ringtone!
I had this for a May VAT Return. I logged into my Agent Services Account and was somewhat relieved to find the VAT Return there ready to file. I was able to type in the figures to the boxes and submit the Return from there, without having to register the client for MTD.
Thanks Hugo. As noted in the original post this was my original position. The client didn't like it when I told her it was taxable and she asked Swimathon. She has now forwarded an email from Swimathon stating that their grants are not taxable, which prompted my question. The Swimathon email is just a simple statement that it is not taxable with no reasoning or explanation as to why not.
It appears that the Swimathon grants are available to swimming organisations rather than to swimming teachers, not that this is any difference when paid to a swim school run as a sole trade.
I was unaware of the mixed messages in respect of the Arts Council funding, but them I don't act for any actors.
BIM41810 is interesting but I would suggest that the most relevant of the bullet points of 'signposts' is the fourth in respect of supplementing business income and therefore taxable. There might be some wriggle room in other points and the amount is very small and there will actually be no tax affect, so I am inclined to treat it as not taxable in this case.
Just logged in to Taxfiler and submitted the final Return without any problem. Now showing a nice green circle with the narrative 'Accepted by HMRC 100%' on the home page.
I don't understand how the PAYE can be paid in full. Surely the company is insolvent and the PAYE would need to be paid in proportion to the other creditors including the VAT and CT.
I hope so. I am in a similar position and have recently joined ICPA. I have been thinking about setting up my own practice for a while and always considered that I would join ICPA when I did as they appear to offer a good package of benefits. As it turned out my employer wanted me to reduce my hours while allowing me to take on work of my own. I thought that the cost was perhaps a bit high for a part time practice but decided to join in any case, to start the way I mean to go on. Having the cost there should give me the motivation to make a good go of my new venture. It is too early to tell yet whether I have made a good choice in joining. Initial impressions are good, (apart from the reference request that they issued, which I was shown and looked a bit poor).

Thank you for your comments Jon.

I subscribed to Taxfiler last week following comments on this site and so far I am impressed with it.

Deed of Variation?
If she is sure that she wants to give away a share of the property she could consider a Deed of Variation to her husband's Will.
