Another overpaid civil servant who doesn’t live in the real world telling us accountants how easy our job is going to be because they have thought of this great wonderful idea in their heads.
I’m all for further moves towards a digital world and will see MTD as an opportunity (mainly to up fees and get rid of the deadwood) but it really annoys me when they come out with lies about why it’s to everyone’s benefit, when it really isn’t for everyone, or that it will cost only £6 extra for all this work. Just tell the truth about why you're doing it and set a reasonable threshold ie not £10k

I hope accounting web don't pay out money for articles like this.

We have so far had no issues, all clients for all quarters now signed up with relative ease.
The only thing that has annoyed me is the sheer amount of time involved/wasted from writing letters to clients to advise them, meetings with them to explain, gathering all information that was required for signing them up! all to submit the same figures (for now at least).

This is ridiculous. If he was resident at the time then the tax should be due. It shouldn’t matter about staleness, being out of time etc.
Totally appreciate rules are in place to protect everyone but the guy shouldn’t be able to get off on a technicality/the discovery rules should be thrown out the window if the tax was legally due at the time.

I had another thought on this matter. What about all the clients I have put on to Sage One Start, the basic version where you can only create sales invoices and it has no purchase ledger. Does this mean Sage are selling something that is useless and the only way to be compliant is buying their £20+ per month package to add the purchase invoices or will I need to keep two records somehow? I purchased the Sage One starts for the bank feeds solely because they were £1 each and we could get all the bank data in while saving a lot of time but now they could become no good for any VAT clients.
