Well done everyone (not)
You appear to have bullied away someone who was doing their (un-trained) best to help someone close to them and tried different approaches to get answers.
Most of you seemed more interested in playing amateur detective and looking clever rather than actually contributing and helping. You don't seem very clever to me.

Nothing constructive to add but ..
you have my admiration for taking the educational steps you have and I wish you well for the future.

Very thin ice
It's exactly as Les says. The materials cannot be disbursements in the manner you suggest.
If the customer pays for the materials and your guy installs them then fine but they wouldn't be on any invoice and the only service provided in the fitting.
At the very least, the client is supplying materials at cost which is a supply at the same rate as the job itself.

No indemnity in the sale I presume
As it was sole prop selling to himself, in a manner of speaking, there is no obligation on him to pay any liabilities arising after the event in any sale agreement.

Sole prop at the time
I would have thought the error was with the sole prop (did the company even exist at the time?) so no amount of wriggling will absolve the guy of the responsibility and it is his responsibility.

I guess the answer is the business will aim to be working with businesses that are VAT registered and hence have no problem with the VAT charge. At the same time VAT is deductible on costs.
That is a rather odd question on this forum I have to say.

Cleared funds on 7th
The money must be cleared in HMRC on the 7th.
Additionally, they appear to be a serial defaulter if they're on 15% and so I would be slightly cautious in the approach. 15% is designed to punish a lack of compliance.

Are you talking about simple attendance or is the customer taking a stand or something? As ever with VAT , the devil is in the detail.

Being human is good - anyway real men cry
Or at least I hope they do or I'm a big girl's blouse!
Chin up and be proud that you can care beyond the invoice, there are plenty who seem not to.

No point posting in a discussion forum something that isn't up for discussion
In your opinion (and doubtless others) but I have a perfect right if I think it worthy of some discussion. The fact that there has been some rather diminishes your view, I would suggest.
You think I'm wrong. Fine but don't take it upon yourself to censor an alternate view.
