This is causing a massive problem as when you try to register as a VAT agent for your client, they need to refer to their VAT registration certificate. If we're not VAT agent then when the client signs up to MTD on Xero, we can't see the current VAT return & therefore can't offer VAT support to our client. I am raising this issue with ICAEW MTD group, hoping that they will be able to resolve the matter directly with HMRC and then let us agents know how it has been resolved.
If you wouldn't normally be VAT registered in UK and only have a UK VAT registration due to VAT Moss, as long as your digital sales to EU are less than £8,818 and your total sales (including these digital sales) are less than £85k then presumably you can deregister from VAT Moss from 1 Jan 2019. Or would you advise waiting and seeing what happens due to Brexit, for the sake of 3 months? Presumably registration from outside the EU for VAT Moss doesn't have this small earnings threshold, as the supplier doesn't belong in an EU state? Thanks
Alternatively they could provide full API so that we can choose our preferred best of breed software for each element and then integrate them together seamlessly. That would be even better in my opinion but it`s going to take some convincing to the larger software companies in particular of the need to be open and provide API.
Thanks for your kind comment :)

Thanks for this great summary of Sharon's session at Practice Excellence. I was sorry to miss it!
Work Life Balance
I really appreciated your coments on work life balance Sharon. Definitely something that I struggle with as well, despite my best efforts. At least with cloud software, you don`t have to be in your office all the time to help clients :)
Cloud payrolll seems to end up very expensive
We tried to start using cloud payroll systems in the current payroll year 2014-15 and we found that we were paying more per month than we had been paying previously for the whole year`s worth of software and the functionality in the payroll software was nowhere near as good. So in Sept-14, we moved all our payrolls back onto good old Moneysoft, even though it is not on the cloud. We will need to see some impressive agent features before we are tempted back onto cloud payroll systems again!
Receipt processing is definitely the way to go
We've been using Receipt Bank alongside Xero and Freeagent with our clients for 18 months now. They absolutely love it and almost every client that I show it to, signs up there and then! It is so worth it for £9 per month and the iphone App is wonderful - I love the fact that I can enter my expense for train travel whilst I`m waiting for the train to arrive! There are so many easy ways to get receipts to Receipt Bank, including getting suppliers to email the invoices direct.
I think Receipt processing will definitely replace the transactional part of book-keeping in the future so that book-keepers can concentrate on producing clear and informative management accounts for businesses so that they really have a handle on their business performance.
P.S. I can't be the only one who thinks Receipt Bank are good as they have won Xero Add-on partner of the year for two years running in UK and they won in Australia this year too!
Love your website
I absolutely love your website and you really embrace the same culture that I also want to inject into accountancy.
The T-shirts are fab too! We`re still in early stages of our set-up but I take real inspiration from your website & your awards, that we will become a "grown-up", profit-making business too!
