The government has never listened to anything anybody says that's a fact
Look at MTD what a nightmare this is going to be HMRC creaking infrastructure cant cope with the end of year rush to file tax returns now they re suggesting doing it 5 times a year and what for so that HMRC can bully people mostly the unrepresented into making unnecessary payments that they wont get back if they are found to be overpaid the changes to the basis system is just a joke (isn't it) i am old enough to remember the fun and games of 1996/97 when they changed the system from previous to current year basis the government should tell HMRC to basically forget any pie in the sky schemes such as MTD and get back to basics such serving the public and stop delaying clients refunds for months on end blaming everything under the sun if HMRC was a private enterprise it would have gone out of business long ago some of the staff should learn some manners at least and maybe even learn how to do their jobs if we treated our clients like HMRC treat everyone how long would we have stayed in the profession never mind in business

yet again another example of the incompetence of HMRC
when is someone going to a complete root and branch overall of this organisation
yet again last week was stuck on hold for almost an hour on the supposed ADL should be answered in 90 seconds not minutes how would clients feel if they were on hold for 90 mins a time
as for MTD for IT like the VAT its got nightmare waiting to happen written all over it

HMRC are a disgrace there are public servants they should answer to the people who use their services
so many occassions in the past 12 months or so i have spent so long hanging on the phone only to have to give up because clients are after answers
Its typical of the public sector they cant manage to do more than one thing at a time
they would never work in the private sector and certainly never work in practice
if HMRC was a private organisation it would have gone bust a very long time ago

At the sharp end of the profession (I am a sole practitioner) If our accounts or returns are the slightest suspect we're investigated YET the BIG BOYS get away with MURDER
the list goes on ...
DONT TARNISH the profession and the efforts and hardwork of the oppressed majority of the profession who abide my rules to the letter of the law

I totally agree with this solution using VAT principles and ensuring that all income is recorded quarterly is a much better option
After all HMRC aren't going to use these quarterly updates for TAX purposes ??
They have said that demands will only issued after the end of yr report has been filled
We need to encourage clients to use bank / BACS payments for all invoices / sales that way resolving the issue of non declared earnings making sure that sales invoices are numbered and in numerical order
the expenses look after themselves

MTD has nothing to do with saving clients money (my clients will be charged more from april 2018) its all about UNIVERSAL CREDIT they want the updates for this
untill they tweek their systems then they will want quarterly payments no doubt
Personally I think the profession should BOYCOTT the entire concept after all its guaranteed that the profession will end up holding this baby and HMRC / HM Govt will take the credit for our work

CPD is usefull especially when its updating tax knowledge but
WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO EXPENSIVE......
Why it is always in an unacessable place that you always end up having a full day off
I am a sole practisioner in the west midlands
I have no staff I can leave to do the work
in other words if I dont do it
someone else will nab from under my nose
Its all well and good the associations saying you need to do this that and other and the bigger players in the profession can adopt it and I'm sure use it as a PR vehicle
But for us at the other end of the spectrum its an expensive exercise
just for the record I am AAT qualified but no longer a member because of the policy of compulsory CPD I also have nearly 30yrs on the clock in the profession
so tell me what CPD can do for me apart from empty my pockets
