Option 5 would be the best solution. Repeal the Money Laundering Regulaiona and return all the staff engaged in this "industry" to the productive part of the economy. Glad that I have retired and sorry for those still having to wrestle with all this and other stifling bureaucracy.
For "transform tax and payments for our customers" read plunder customer bank accounts by direct collection of tax debt whether real or or made up by HMRC.
Well said, I agree with you. A load of cobblers. MTD is/was just a Bureaucrats dream that a number of people in our profession seemed to be carried way with. Just let businesses get on with business and don't bog them down with electronic paperwork.
They should have wasted our money on something else, or better still not spend it.
GOV website makes simple things more difficult as it is so dumbed down. What I find infuriating is that many documents and guides are not available as pdf's so can't be downloaded. A lot of the HMRC forms can only be filled out online so you don't know the questions before you start and you only see a small section of the form at each point. When you get to the end you can print it off and send it in the post to HMRC, groundbreaking! Time consuming and painful to use.
HMRC's computer systems are so technologically advanced that they have held up a client's tax refund for six months while they await a reply from the Employer for a copy of the P45 (my client having lost her copy).
In another case HMRC have demanded that my client provides a P45 or P60 (another client who had lost his copy) so that they can verify their data to resolve their tax investigation. I had foolishly relied on a letter previously sent by HMRC to me so that I could prepare my client's Tax Return and it now appears that the letter provided by HMRC and information shown on the Employer Coding Notice was complete rubbish.
I sometimes wonder what HMRC do with all this data they collect but are reluctant to share?
More Revenue propaganda I think but I am glad to hear that it will reduce "requirements" on Employers!
I had a client who was harassed by HMRC for a debt he did not owe because HMRC had processed his Tax Return incorrectly. This included telephoning the client at home and demanding that he paid by debit card there and then. My client got his local MP involved who wrote to Dave Hartnett and received a reply that my firm had made the error and HMRC were blameless. After giving the MP a detailed account of all HMRC's failings in the case Dave Hartnett conceded the error and HMRC paid £100 in compensation. No apology for the errors and harassment or for the comments about my firm. Clearly he continues to be economical with the truth.
Hartnett has presided over a catalogue of failings and mis-management of HMRC and it is time for him to go.

those that can do, those that can't teach.
Spot on. I've been swimming against the HMRC tide for years. I find it preferable to being swept out to sea and drowning!

Also meets objective 1 of "maximise revenues due"

HMRC haven't got a clue!
Waste of money
