I certainly think it's fair to say that people have got over the over-optimistic idea that you can post something – however good – and expect tons of drive-by readers to turn up out of nowhere.
A blog I manage outside the world of accountancy gets a pretty healthy daily readership but the vast majority of those readers come as a result of sharing links to new posts on Twitter.
Even if every post on a blog doesn't get read (another extinct idea: the company blog as ‘one-stop-shop’) some certainly will. PracticeWeb has one client who gets about 80 per cent of their total web traffic from a single post on inheritance tax which frequently ranks above HM Government pages on the same topic.
