But they activate schemes which have never been used!
We have had schemes reinstated by HMRC even though the company has been dissolved and HMRC were told about 6 years ago that the scheme was no longer needed.
They reinstate without telling you and now they are proposing to close without telling you.
Surely Cruella Deville will be lumbered with the tax charge not Baron Hardup?
I know of someone taken to court locally - it ruined her business and she became a 'leper' in her own community even though she was certain she had done nothing wrong.
If she is cleared I hope all those people who have judged her within her village have the guts to apologise to her face
Black Knight - 2
We could all give examples of this - but how many of use report them, I have but obviously never know if action is taken.
I know of HMRC officers who ask trades people for a discount if they pay in cash - seen it done with my clients who then declare the amount received and adjust vat accordingly - we have reported the officers in question but as they are still employed by HMRC so assume nothing was done.
Surely just common sense would pick up many tax evaders - checking all shop keepers have registered for tax, market traders - are they all registered - do they all have PAYE schemes - sorry to be picking on the small traders but those who operate under the line tend to be the start of a long chain.
All self builds - how many are for people in the trade who loose some costs via their businesses.
However HM need to employ the right people - and they need to act on the information provided to them - however recently had an enquiry into a little old lady as HM had been given incorrect information by local council on housing benefit. Luckily after scaring the old lady half to death we had a meeting which sorted everything out - we did spend quite some time sorting it out though.
We also need to educate people - start by writing to all teachers reminding them that if they provide private tuition they must declare it etc.
Avon ladies who have other jobs etc.still need to declare their profits.
The software I use collect the FBI receipt and we keep this in case HM receipt not received.
We had a problem last week - but later discovered that our inbox limit had been exceeded and once we had cleared out old emails we have not had a problem - but still never got the ones which mush have bounced back.
I like it hot
When in Cornwell I always buy a hot pasty to eat there and then. I buy it with the intention of eating it hot in the same way I would purchase hot chips.
What ever happens any food which is generally sold as hot should all have the same rules applied.
We need simple rules on things like this.
Whats to say Macdonalds would then sell burgers and say that they expect people to eat them cold.
Perhaps a lower rate of say 5% on all food provided hot and then 20% on sit in eateries.
We need a level playing field.
Sorry for the Cornish Pasty but I will still buy you with the VAT, however I am not likely to buy you if you were cold!
WILL THEY WRITE TO TAX PAYERS
Will they now write to those 17000 tax payers in a prompt manner and apologise?
paye for schools
Being asked to go into a school to discuss paye and tax with students.
As you have already done this - do you have notes which I can use to do a presentation rather than reinvent the wheel.
Doing it on a voluntary basis.
If poss please email me on [email protected]
Option b but ....
Reading Rebeccas comments option B seems the way forward. However alot of my clients have genuine holiday homes but do stay in them at the beginning and end of the season to do repair work to get them ready for the letting season and 'putting' them to bed at the end of the season. Does this mean if they stay in a local B & B that while they did these repairs that OK but rather than pay out expenses that they stay on site overnight when doign repairs means they loose the FHL tax benefit.
burden of proof
Totally agree with your comments but the burden of proof that we sent 64/8 will be left to us so unless we send everything Guaranteed Delviery they will say they never recieved it.
Perhaps we should all save our post for HMRC and post GND once a month!
