I understand what you're saying. At the end of HMRC's online filing service you get to see the tax calculation for the year. HMRC doesn't then go on to show you how that compares to the payments that have already been made on account. It takes a few days for HMRC's systems to register the receipt of the Tax Return and to update the account to show any balance still owed or overpaid as per the Tax Return, it's not instant. Even using third party tax software I still have to look up what's actually already been paid. If you don't want to work it out - file the Tax Return, log out. Log-in a couple of days later and see what HMRC says you are due to pay, once the record has been updated with the Tax Return submission. Same site, same/ log-in, not separate, just an updated page.
Now if you really want to have some fun with this, there are many, many, things that are broken with HMRC, but not having the payments on Account being reflected in the HMRC online tax return submission service at the point of preparation, really is not a gripe that many Aweb members here seem to have.
Top tip - file much earlier than 31st Jan and/or engage a professional to assist
I'm in Scotland, our restrictions have been more severe, since last summer, even though in my local area (Moray) our numbers have been very low, amongst the lowest in the UK, comparable to the Islands. (They were under 10 per day per 100,000 at that point). On Boxing Day we went from Tier 1/ level, straight to to Tier 4/level 4, not because of a rise in numbers in our local area but simply because Nicola S decided to try and prevent people moving about. So we had 15 cases per £100K and were tier 4 and other areas in the uk were nearly 300 in 100K and were tier 3. (Don't get me started on Boris deciding on a road trip to Scotland this week!) Despite our low numbers here I don't have client meetings, last one was in the summer outside, there is a prearranged drop off of pick/up/outside, non contactless. We speak on the phone/Zoom ( a few, not many) and email
In your original post you refer to the person that you are trying to assist as a "client". If you are a bona fide agent with your own software then you don't need to register him as a client in order to be able to file a Tax Return. That said, it isn't clear from your question what it is you are trying to do or rather what your client/friend is trying to do via HMRC online services. If the other party is trying to set up a time to pay/instalment arrangement then there is a phone number that they can call
Thanks for the clarification. It is now sounding more like a classic case of mis-communication, from both sides. There are two sides to every story and the truth often lies somewhere in the middle. The payment on account request is a slightly different situation, granted, and that's not something that I would do. It sounds like you are communicating now so it's likely that you can arrive at an agreement on how to proceed. There is still time to go to someone else, they would need your UTR and your Accounts information if they were willing to take you on and file by the deadline. Additionally HMRC have indicated that they may accept appeals against late filing penalties due to Covid related failures by taxpayers or their agents. A caveat - This is new and there are no guarantees that an appeal on this basis will succeed.
Your accountant has a bit of a problem with you, I'm afraid. You haven't stuck to your side of the relationship and provided the information when asked to within the reasonable deadlines provided to you. Your accountant could now have numerous clients who have left everything until the last minute like you have done and are now all demanding prompt attention. She may well have other deadlines to meet in the normal course of her work on top of potentially home schooling. It sounds like the quote she provided to you was based on you being organised and providing your information on time. Her time is valuable, and she could've been doing other more productive and fee earning work rather than chasing you for your information. Apologise to her and pay up is what you can do, as well as become a reformed client and provide the information she asks for on time in future.
Noooooooo! Just read my email from them too. Seems like every product I pick to use Iris ends up taking it over. Added to my February todo list is to seek a replacement for Taxfiler and Senta!
Just post your journal in the bookkeeping software, Taxfiler can post the journal you need for the Corporation Tax liability, if needed, direct to supported bookkeeping software. Otherwise what is the Journal you are wishing to be able to post in Taxfiler?
struggling here, I'm a sole trader and the rules changing nearly every week and always detail published on a Friday is not affecting my income but it is affecting my mental health for the first time ever.
