Interestingly (perhaps!) the letters state that you must pay electronically although the CT603s received this morning state that you can pay by cheque at your branch!
The CT603s state that must not pay by post - so it seems cheques are ok as long as you don't post them.
HMRC contradicting themselves? Who has ever experienced this rare phenomenon?

Other ways to pay
Very similar to 4nick8 who sounds like a lucky person! Tax reference actually provided under 'Other ways to pay' as part of the payment reference. Reference was bottom right hand corner of the Notice.

Cardiff TO only?
I called SA helpline 2 weeks ago and was told the same thing about the 2 week turnaround. However, the person I was speaking to advised that the 2 week turnaround was Cardiff only as they have a huge backlog of SA302 requests. I was advised to call again and hope I didn't get put through to Cardiff. I called back, didn't get Cardiff, and rec'd fax same day!!!

Yes - letters are for 2012/13 Tax Returns!

Just called Agent line ...
Just received a call from upset client. Has received the same letter stating "You need to act now!".
HMRC confirmed they do not check partner's income - which is a shame as, in this instance, the HIC is on the partner's TR!!
The contact on the agent line said that they had already taken several calls and each time no adjustment was required the Return.
Yet another example of poorly worded, standard scare mongering letters issued by HMRC - at the taxpayers cost and which cause clients to doubt their agents!!

Thank you for the replies which are very helpful. It was the BATR days I was remembering with fondness?! The hotel was a three floor building with the whole of the ground floor (which included the only kitchen) occupied by the owners. They only occupied the ground floor and did not venture out in quieter periods of the year ref CG64723. I believe this removes the possibility of claiming any lettings exemption. A family member was also occupying one room of eight in the upper floors for about half the period of ownership.

Yes. I have a few in the air and it was the first time I have seen confirmation of a date for the HMRC Appeal.
I have edited the title as my entry in the short description box does not seem to appear!
Thought it would be useful for those holding their breath - albeit for almost a year!!
I would expect a victory for the Appellant!

Taz and Bugsy get along ...
Thanks for all the replies. I was indeed talking about accounts prep and accrual of wages not submitted at company year end. Euan is also correct in that we also need to get to know our software better. Taz hate water - and RTI!! :)

Clarification for colleague!
A scenario so that I am asking exactly what my colleague wants me to ask!
Say 31 August 2013 company YE.
No payroll processed from April to August 2013 - because client processes one payment (director only) in month 12 (so March 2014). Salary £10,000 for 2013/14.
Colleague would like to accrue 5 months of £10k in Accounts to 31 August 2013. Others think you cant do that in the RTI era.
Please be gentle if I am going crazy ;)

Changed or not?!
So can you still accrue for salary not paid at the year end?
