A practitioner for more than 20 years, Tony Margaritelli is Chairman of the ICPA to promote recognition of small practice accountants who remain the top trusted advisors to millions of UK businesses.
A member of the AccountingWEB Live advisory board, Tony brings a unique perspective on what it means to be a practitioner and leads an organisation that serves and speaks on behalf of more than 1,140 fellow professionals.
Looking forward to the event very much. If the accountingweb ethos can be transposed to a conference/exhibition arena which means involving real accountants and focusing on their needs and expectations solely then it should be a winner and judging by the the website you are going in the right direction. - Tony Margaritelli
Good luck to all the nominees. From my own experiences as judge and sponsor of the small practice section for some years to get nominated is a major achievement as year on year the quantity and quality of entrant gets higher and higher. Really looking forward to the awards evening and seeing all the happy faces- Tony Margaritelli - Chair ICPA
A really good article on issues that will become more and more important as the months pass by and as accounts reach the preparatory stage. Thanks Steve. Tony Margaritelli - Chair ICPA
Let me just repeat that it was really hard to reduce down the entrants to 3 in the small practice category and that the quality of every entry was of the highest order and if you didn't make it this year don't be despondent just come back next year and try again. For me the small practice category showed just how innovative and current our small practice are and how they are adapting to the challenges that they face whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. I like to thank my co judges John and Heather for joining in what John says was an epic debate. Tony Margaritelli Chair ICPA
Loved the part about error-free software and I wonder whether HMRC have consider this for themselves? apparently not judging by the problems with Marriage Allowance and Class 2 NIC. HMRC have ambitious ideas about all things digital and undoubtedly they are looking at agents to actually make it work judging by their past efforts. However, if they continue to put agents to the back of the queue while they make change after change they ought not to be too surprised if it doesn't go according to their plans. Tony Margaritelli - Chair ICPA
I have received calls to my my office from members with the same issue on Class 2 NIC and also where transfer of allowances is concerned. I have been advised that HMRC have stated that they hope to "fix" the nic issue in November but have no date for a fix of the surplus allowances issue but that was given me by a member who contacted HMRC helpline direct. Yet again Agents and taxpayers are caused extra work which is none of their doing. Seriously, this does not bode well for the Digital Agenda does it. Tony Margaritelli - Chair ICPA
Welcome to the world of Differentiated Agent Services or DAS which I warned about some time ago. Expect that HMRC will restrict Agents THEY believe to be not good agents based on their perception. Some agents will be fated with by HMRCs largesse whilst others will find their access to services restricted. As I have said consistently that HMRC don't really like us and are blaming us for their inability to collect taxes that actually are not due. Tony Margaritelli Chair ICPA
Thank you Steve for a very good article on a subject that is growing in importance as each day passes. On FRS105 the point about The P&L format is well made. Thanks again and I'll keep a look out for any more of your articles on this subject going forward
