The resources don't exist to do this. Perhaps some phone calls to former employees. Or even, heaven forfend, seeking assistance from outside?

I'd be surprised if this didn't end up in the Supreme Court. Of course, if we vote for independence, that would throw a spanner in the works. Then it would come down to which school the judges went to. (I don't expect non Scots to understand the allusion.)

Missing the point..
Commenters are assuming that HMRC knew about the offshore trusts & thus were fully aware of all the circumstances.

It's not just about staff leaving to go to other firms, it's the fact that so many are/have retired, & not been replaced, so HMRC are now frantically trying to replace them but there aren't enough people to mentor the new people AND get the day job done.

And if HMRC did this, there would be screams from the profession about fishing expeditions. You can't have it both ways.
