Can I ask if the change of heart will extend to companies that hire out plant and machinery. My client hires out forklift trucks on a long term and short term basis. If the AIA is to be cut from 01/01/2022 to £200,000 then losing out on the super deduction will have quite an impact on the allowances they can claim.

The HMRC page on Help to the Self Employed states that the average trading profits should not exceed 50% of the average taxable income (ie after personal allowance) not gross income (ie before personal allowance). Is this how others read this ?

Ring the Helpdesk
It's 9.52pm and after endless 'System Error' messages I rang the Helpline (0845 605 5999) more in hope than anticipation. Nearly fell off my chair when I got through to someone who claimed that the System is 'up and running' but that as a user I would just need to 'keep trying' in order to see if I could get through. I went on a fairly predictable rant which made me feel slightly better but really its a lottery as to whether you can get through to your client list or not. Suggest others ring and keep up the pressure.

Online System still down
Don't believe the propaganda. The system seems to be permanently down, citing 'System error', and generating very long reference numbers. The Helpdesk, which in theory should be closed now as it is after 8pm, advises that calls are not being taken due to high call volumes. We may spend the rest of tonight and tomorrow in limbo not knowing what is going on.
