Xero's guide explores everything you need to know about preparing your practice for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA).

Under MTD for ITSA rules, self-employed people and landlords earning above £50,000 will need to submit quarterly updates, one End of Period Statement (EOPS) and a Final Declaration each tax year. To do this, they’ll need MTD-compatible software for record-keeping and sending updates to HMRC.

The new rules will apply from April 2026, with self-employed people and landlords earning above £30,000 then coming under MTD from 2027.

This expert guide covers three practical steps you can take to start preparing your practice today, along with tips and advice from Xero partners navigating the change.

This guide covers:

  • Educating your employees on the changes
  • Segmenting your client base for ITSA
  • Preparing your Agent Services Account for ITSA
