What AccountingWEB says

Originating many years ago from Deloitte, Sage Accounts Production Advanced (SAPA) appears to have strayed off course in recent years as Sage wrestled with the competing priorities and requirements of its three accounts production applications.

This lack of direction and product focus appears to have affected all Sage’s applications, from Sage 50 Accounts to its tax and practice tools, all of which have dropped in their share of ratings in the different categories.

Against this background decline, SAPA actually gained a few points on its product rating scores this year, but it still comes out with one of the lowest scores for value for money. SAPA was not affected so much by technical issues with the transition to new UK GAAP and FRS 102, but a couple of comments indicate that the program has become harder to use.

With the final accounts module of Sage Accountant Cloud emerging from the latest product branding overhaul, the rationale for maintaining all three is wearing thin. Many customers will be watching to see which of Sage’s other AP products will emerge as the focus for further desktop developments.

What do you like?

Presentation of accounts and detailed trial balance and ledgers. Charity layouts and groups accounts.

What would you change?

The constant regenerating of the accounts when a journal has been made is quite slow, on the likes of Taxfiler the accounts are updated immediately which saves time. When the front page of the draft accounts show any errors, it would be useful if you could click on the error to go to the ROP or report pad in question. The software has become very difficult to use since the introduction of FRS 102.

What do you like?

Simple and easy to use.

What would you change?

When trial balance is updated, to auto update instead of having to close tabs down and re-open to reflect change. Better chart of accounts showing ranges i.e. Sage layout.

What do you like?

Easy to post entries and can clearly see trial balance and drill down into figures.

What would you change?

ROPS dates do not roll forward and have to be manually changed, its also very long winded to allocate specific income/expenditure to each partner on the software. You cannot select an income category to go straight to a partner's profit allocation.

What do you like?

I like how easy this is to use, not too complex, easy to alter accounts and produce accounts tailored to your clients needs.

What would you change?

There are sometimes rounding issues that cannot be resolved or problems when doing period ends or a set of interim accounts. It is sometimes hard to get these to follow on from the last set of accounts.
