What AccountingWEB says

Around the turn of the century, IRIS established itself as the clear market leader for professional accounting, tax and practice software. Its success was driven by integrating all the different modules so that when you entered data in one place, it would populate connected fields.

Our survey data shows that it is still firmly entrenched in the mid-market. IRIS clearly understands this sector, but in recent years a new generation of cloud rivals have been luring customers in smaller firms with lower prices.

IRIS acknowledged this threat in May 2018 by acquiring Taxfiler, but still lacks an entry-level practice management offering to counter integrated suites from Capium and Gbooks and incursions from big players like Xero and QuickBooks and smaller practice management specialists. Taxfiler opens a new route for IRIS, but it will have to fight hard to reassert the benefits of integration in such a fast-moving, price-driven market.
