What AccountingWEB says

FreeAgent is the reigning small business accounting champion in our software pantheon, thanks to a large and enthusiastic user population of freelances and contractors who turn out to cast their votes in our survey. You can see many of their comments below.

But times are changing, both for freelancers and the software developer, which became part of the NatWest RBS Bank group in 2017. The one-person limited company model designed to circumvent IR35 payment rules is slated for reform in 2020 which will disrupt FreeAgent’s core market. But as part of RBS, FreeAgent is now being offered free to small businesses and their accountants to win new business for the bank.

The formula has been working, and added a lot of new customers to the FreeAgent community in 2018. The relationship extends to direct links between the accounts and the bank to expedite business lending decisions. With tax going digital and banking tech merging with accounting software, FreeAgent offers a glimpse of what accounting software might look like in the “fintech” future.
