What AccountingWEB says

FreeAgent is the reigning small business accounting champion in our software pantheon, thanks to a large and enthusiastic user population of freelances and contractors who turn out to cast their votes in our survey. You can see many of their comments below.

But times are changing, both for freelancers and the software developer, which became part of the NatWest RBS Bank group in 2017. The one-person limited company model designed to circumvent IR35 payment rules is slated for reform in 2020 which will disrupt FreeAgent’s core market. But as part of RBS, FreeAgent is now being offered free to small businesses and their accountants to win new business for the bank.

The formula has been working, and added a lot of new customers to the FreeAgent community in 2018. The relationship extends to direct links between the accounts and the bank to expedite business lending decisions. With tax going digital and banking tech merging with accounting software, FreeAgent offers a glimpse of what accounting software might look like in the “fintech” future.

What do you like?

Just makes bookkeeping and accounts infinitely easier.

What would you change?

Would like to see more focus on polishing small issues that have been around for years - more of a a balance against adding new features.

What do you like?

It just works - ie invoicing is easy, bank feeds and PayPal feeds work great. Reporting is at a level a non accountant can use. They also have a great mobile app you can use.

What would you change?

One change and its purely cosmetic - add recurring invoices to the drop down menu!

What do you like?

Makes running a business easier - but best feature is the support function and FAQ. Truly excellent and the best I have seen in 30 years as consultant, programme director, small business owner - spot on!

What would you change?

Ability to vary mileage rate on expenses - set at HMRC 45p/mile taste - but its less if a company car owner. Minor quibble as very easy work around.

What do you like?

Easy to raise an invoice and send it off to my client.

What would you change?

Stock control module - totally unfit for purpose and is causing me issues with my data.
