Former AccountingWEB editor and regular contributor Rebecca Benneyworth has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the tax profession.

As an active tax writer, lecturer and poster on Any Answers, tributes have come flooding in from AccountingWEB members to congratulate her on the well-deserved honour.

Benneyworth said she was absolutely thrilled at the award: “My passion for tax and the efficient operation of the tax system for the benefit of everyone in the UK is what drives me on.

“After an exciting few months, this will spur me on to do more to support taxpayers, the tax profession and government and HMRC to achieve a better tax system,” she said.

Her most recent article on AccountingWEB reports on the proposed cash accounting rules consultation where she explains the potential impact on small accountancy firms will be huge.

Also in the Birthday Honours List, Dr James Ferguson, deputy director of central policy at HMRC, was awarded a CBE.

From the business world Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone received a knighthood; while Lucy Neville-Rolfe, deputy chair of the British Retail Consortium and executive director at Tesco, was made a dame.
