Hammond announces Autumn Statement date

Philip Hammond will take the dispatch box on Wednesday 23 November and present his first Autumn Statement, the government announced yesterday.

Hammond is expected to use the Autumn Statement to reveal his plans to steady the UK economy following Britain’s vote to leave the EU.

According to the Guardian, the Chancellor appeared before the House of Lords on Thursday and hinted that the UK’s public debt was still on the agenda. He said: “I don’t think we should be cavalier about levels of debt.”

Outlining his pre-Autumn statement plans, Hammond said: "In the run-up to the Autumn Statement I will be engaging with Britain's business leaders and employee representatives through a series of industry round tables, meetings and visits."
