Accountant jailed over £3m gambling fraud

An accountant who earned £150,000 a year working in the City has been jailed for a £3m fraud. 

Canterbury Crown Court heard that Darren Thompson gambled investors’ money by betting on the outcome of football matches on the Internet, Kent Online reported.

At first the gambling system he came up with was successful, but as more and more people were drawn into it losses started to build up. Thompson then produced a glossy brochure containing false information about the levels of return, enticing even more people to part with their cash.
