Berlusconi loses appeal in tax fraud case

Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has lost his appeal against a four-year jail sentence imposed last October for alleged tax fraud involving his Mediaset company.

The 76-year-old billionaire's media empire Mediaset was at the heart of what judge Edoardo D'Avossa described as "significant tax evasion" between 2001 and 2003 over the artificially inflating the sale of film rights.
