The Employer CD-ROM will not be issued this year, and instead the range of tools on it will be available to download from HMRC’s website.

The online resources are now available from the Business Link website.

The CD-ROM was devised for small employers with up to 10 employees who wanted to handle their own payroll records. As reported last September, employers wanting to continue to use the online versions of the same tools must ensure they updated their installation using the final CD-ROM to ensure compatibility with the new online tools for 2010-11 end of year returns.

PAYE information, forms and guidance are all available online via BusinessLink.gov. Employers who do not have adequate internet access may still be able to obtain a CD-ROM by calling HMRC's Employer Orderline on 08457 646 646, but this facility is intended for exceptional cases.

Many employers (and a few agents) may be sad to see the end of the CD, but switching to online delivery will generate "modest savings", HMRC said.

To keep employers up to date with new tools and advice, HMRC has set up an employer email alert service.

CD ROM Payroll

How does an agent (with no payroll) sign up to the new on line payroll tools? And do the new tools still allow a small payroll to be run?
