Gordon Brown will deliver his pre-budget report on Wednesday 6 December, the government has announced.

The Treasury revealed today that the chancellor will deliver the speech to the House of Commons at 12.30pm.

It is predicted that the statement will be Brown's most political yet and probably his last as chancellor.

Paul Davies, Ernst & Young's UK head of tax, said: "With the chancellor facing the very real prospect of this being his last pre-budget report, as the chancellor hopes to move "next door", he should take the opportunity to set out the long term vision for the UK to attract and retain business and to leave the country in the state that any new Chancellor would wish to find it. This means providing a coherent strategy across all taxes and a culture in which businesses can thrive."

Earlier this week, accountants PKF predicted that the report will be dominated by green taxes, more tough talk on tax avoidance and consultation on reforming business taxes.

AccountingWEB will provide full coverage of the statement and subsequent reaction.
