We've long been a believer that accountants definitely aren't boring - and it appears Hollywood have agreed with us.

The Accountant, a new action thriller starring Ben Affleck as a mild-mannered accountant (surprise) who moonlights as a killer for hire, starts filming this week after months of deliberation.

There is scant information on its plot at the moment, but it does John Lithgow who plays a Silicon valley tech magnate. His character apparently hires Affleck to investigate irregularities in his firm's books.

Co-starring with Affleck, who will also be the new Batman, is Anna Kendrick - an accountant 'whiz' who manages to get mixed up in the lead's dark dealings.

Also starring is Jeffrey Tambor, a mafia accountant who mentors Affleck in the ways of the underworld.

Directing the film, which was put on ice for several times and previously linked to Sony, Mel Gibson and Will Smith, is Gavin O Connor.

There's no release date yet but we will be keeping you well informed on its progress.

And we also think there's a case for a UK version, perhaps in practice rather than industry - Confessions of a Sole Practitioner, anyone?

Well that's a coincidence.

It just so happens that I am a mild-mannered killer for hire who moonlights as an accountant.

We all have to make a living.

Moonlighting 2

This is a timely reminder that we all need to look for alternative ways to boost our income, especially if, as Philip Fisher suggests here, we may need to reduce our fees!

Sounds

Like a good film. I look forward to watching it.

Like any other aspect, normal life is boring. You cannot make a film out of it. There needs to be drama. Through this, I think some aspects of the accountancy profession will come out.

About time accountants are seen as sexy!

Tax Return

Presumably the mild mannered accountant will put his self employed murderer business on his tax return. How should he describe it?

I suggest Pest Control

Lion Tamer

Well I guess it makes a change from the Monty Python lion tamer sketch about an accountant wanting more excitement in life.
