In one of the most competitive categories of the AccountingWEB Software Awards, TaxCalc repeated its 2020 triumph to make it three wins in five years in the tax software category.
A handful of ballots separated the Wokingham-based firm from its closest rival FreeAgent, with both vendors receiving a healthy share of user appreciation for their efforts.
The tax preparation software market remains a tough environment for developments, with vendors forced to monitor the continually shifting compliance landscape while maintaining high levels of customer service and product development.
Compared to other categories, recent results in the tax software awards point to it as a bastion of stability in a turbulent world. However, the promise of a digital taxation shake-up and new products coming to market means that regular winners such as TaxCalc and BTC Software may need to keep on their toes to continue their run of success.

Awards methodology
Throughout the year AccountingWEB members are invited to nominate their favourite apps across the 10 categories listed here. Those votes are compiled into rankings on which the awards are decided. The trend indicators are based on rankings within the category, or where they haven’t changed by the number of rankings achieved compared to the previous awards.
The polls are already open for this year’s awards, so if you’d like to have your say:
