Cloud accounting took longer to catch on among larger businesses, but that gap is rapidly closing. Nearly three-quarters of the ratings in this year’s mid-market accounting survey went to cloud suppliers.

The final cut pits three of them against the leading client/server developers in this category. The full 2020 shortlist includes:

  • AccountsIQ

  • iplicit

  • Pegasus Opera 3

  • Sage 50cloud accounts

  • Xledger

Originally designed for small businesses, Sage 50cloud Accounts has become a mid-market product by default as customer businesses expanded and customised their Sage installations along the way. That makes them much harder to replace outright with a cloud solution. The same goes for Pegasus Opera 3, the other main stalwart in this category for many, many years.

AccountsIQ is now a familiar name in mid-market accounting circles, having won Accounting Excellence software awards for this category in 2018 and 2019. Xledger has taken a while to register a significant UK base for its cloud-based ERP suite, but this year marks a breakthrough.

By contrast, iplict only started marketing its program at the beginning of 2019, so making it through to the 2020 is a remarkable achievement.

Can AccountsIQ repeat its success in this category for the third consecutive year? Come back on Wednesday, 2 December 2020 when we announce the winner of this year's Mid-market & Enterprise Accounting Software of the Year Award.
