With a mix of online and on-premise applications in the frame, the annual rankings illustrate the continuing transition taking place in mid-market and enterprise accounting. While Pegasus, Greentree and Sage represent the client/server tradition, AccountsIQ, Xledger and Oracle NetSuite increased their turnout within this constituency during 2021.

With more complex installations to manage, mid-market and enterprise software customers have been slower to undertake major overhauls of their finance systems in recent years, thanks in part to disruption and uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Feedback from AccountingWEB’s insight survey and Live Expo in December, however, detected signs that demand has been building among mid-size businesses. There are still several areas such as stock, job costing and consolidated reporting where Xero, Sage or QuickBooks ecosystem solutions don’t quite cater for the all-in-one functionality offered by developers of more sophisticated, dedicated applications.

Keep an eye on mid-market and enterprise accounting – this could be one of the busier sectors during 2022.

Awards methodology

Throughout the year AccountingWEB members are invited to nominate their favourite apps across the 10 categories listed here. Those votes are compiled into rankings on which the awards are decided. The trend indicators in this table are based on rankings within the category, or where the position hasn’t changed by the number of rankings achieved compared to the previous awards.

The polls are already open for this year’s awards, so if you’d like to have your say:
